hugger

One-click archiving for HuggingFace models β€” keep your own copy before access disappears.

Also available for Firefox on Android. The extension talks only to your own hugger server β€” nothing is sent to us.

Why archive models?

The model you build on today may not be downloadable tomorrow. Archiving turns β€œhosted somewhere” into β€œowned by you.”

Regulation

New AI rules and export controls can force models to be geofenced, gated, or pulled. A local archive keeps you working regardless of where policy lands.

Takedowns & relicensing

Repos get deleted, made private, or switched to restrictive licenses. If you didn’t download it, you may never get that exact version again.

Reproducibility

Research and audits need the exact commit. hugger pins the revision sha so results stay reproducible years later.

Offline & sovereignty

Air-gapped labs, spotty networks, and data-residency rules all need models stored on infrastructure you control.

How it works

Run the small self-hosted hugger server, point the extension at it, and archive from any model page.

Self-host the server. A tiny Python app (web UI + API) that downloads full model snapshots to disk. Internet-exposable, with login + token auth, or a NixOS module for one-line deploys.
Install the extension & paste your token. Chrome, Firefox (desktop + Android), and Edge. The background worker holds the token; the page never sees it.
Archive in one click. On any huggingface.co model page, hit – Archive. hugger downloads the snapshot and tracks the commit.
Manage & update. The button shows βœ“ Archived with Remove, and offers Update when a newer revision is published.

Keep the models you depend on.
